About us
The Tri-national Network for the Rescue of the Lempa River was created on February 11, 2020, as a result of dialogue between civil society, social organizations, and local governments for the rescue and recovery of the Lempa River. Its objective is to organize a permanent platform or space for inter-institutional, national, and trinational coordination that will promote efforts to rescue and recover this important shared trinational resource during the decade from 2020 to 2030. Thirty-seven organizations participated in the founding event, of which 22 made an official commitment.
Given the current situation, the continued deterioration of the Lempa River basin, and in order to work for the conservation of this valuable resource, as a trinational platform we focus on addressing the following issues: urban pollution, industrial and agro-industrial pollution, weak water governance, lack of education and awareness about caring for the ecosystems of the Lempa River basin, and pollution from the use of toxic agricultural chemicals.
The official launch of the Tri-national Network for the Rescue of the Lempa River took place on March 18, 2020, in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Our Mission
Promote social and political advocacy actions, as well as awareness-raising for the rescue, recovery, and conservation of the Lempa River and the natural life of its basin.
Our Vision
The Network's proposals are a call to citizens, civil society, businesses, local governments, central governments, and other state bodies to join forces so that we can achieve medium- and long-term conservation goals for the Lempa River.
Meet the Network Members
